One of the major curiosities of this summer’s movie slate has been is-he-or-isn’t-he-a-Scientologist Will Smith’s latest vehicle Hancock. While it seems precious little of Vincent Ngo’s brilliant original script has been retained, the movie still promises to deliver on its concept of a dysfunctional, depressed superhero. And middle finger to the haters, I found the trailers to be quite hilarious. (more…)

Brothers, we’ve lost another one.
Ruben Studdard, the second season American Idol winner who apologized for fucking up the entire year of 2004, tied the knot yesterday to a beautiful autograph-seeking fan he followed into a Wal-Mart toy aisle almost two years ago. (more…)

AC Person of the Week: Nikki G
June 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment
I recently had the good fortune to meet Nikki G, a very intelligent and talented young woman who’s making waves in the world of fashion photography. A former model and fashion wholesale rep, Nikki mixes insider knowledge of the fashion industry with a keen sense of style and creativity.
What I found fascinating about Nikki G is the fact that she initially had no formal education or training in photography. As she told me, she simply picked her camera up, taught herself about lenses and lighting, and did the damn thing. She also has a strong passion for filmmaking, and cinematic influences can definitely be seen in a lot of her work.
While she is known mostly for her work in fashion and beauty, notably with plus size models and with esteemed agencies such as Ford, Nikki G will be soon branching out into intimate portraits and band photography. For more information, be sure to check out her website.

I’ve Got To Do More Things
June 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment
The eras are ending, and I’m getting old.
So I read on Eater that Amy Sacco, one of my favorite Amazon women, has closed her restaurant Bette. Having been a fan of Amy due to her role in bringing prominence to New York nightlife, one of the things I’d wanted to do upon moving to the City was hit up her establishments, Bette and Bungalow 8. I had an opportunity to go to Bungalow a few weeks ago for a friend’s birthday, but I allowed minor issues prevent me from doing so. And now, with the closing of Bette, I’ve let another opportunity slip by. (more…)

ScriptGirl Report 06-27-08

Okay, so I’m a day late with it! I got drunk last night.
Far be it for me to criticize any of the ideas of the scripts and pitches that got bought this week, but a lot of them do sound incredibly lame. Alas, this only motivates me more. Thanks again to ScriptGirl for the info.

Is Ne-Yo Really Dissing Chris Brown?
June 23, 2008 · 8 Comments
Okay, now I’ve heard everything. I like the pop-&-B music of both young Chris Brown and Ne-Yo, so it’s difficult to really believe they are embroiled in some kind of beef. (I may be mistaken, but hasn’t Ne-Yo written songs — hit songs, at that — for Young Brown?) So imagine my surprise when I hear that Ne-Yo has crafted a diss record, supposedly leveling shots at CB.
R&B cats dissing each other via song, you say. Isn’t that strange? Why, yes, it is, although it’s admittedly not completely unheard of. But what’s even stranger is that Mr. Irreplaceable isn’t singing in his diss track — he’s rapping. Limp braggadocio and lyrical clumsiness over the instrumental to Lil Wayne’s new classic “A Milli” after the jump. (more…)

I’m a Marvel, and I’m a DC: Batman vs. Hulk
June 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment
These videos are always good for a laugh. For the uninitiated, these “Marvel vs. DC” videos parody the hilarious “Mac vs. PC” commercials that starred the oh so very popular Justin Long.
The latest one, if you couldn’t tell from the title, features Batman and Hulk. Hilarity ensues after the jump. (more…)
