As you should already know, GUESTLIST is finally released. To celebrate the novel’s release, we held a book release party this past Monday at cocktail bar Hanson Dry in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.
The party was a grand success – friends, colleagues, co-workers, drinking buddies, women I lust after adore, everyone came out to celebrate, and it was a good time.
Yesterday, a small gathering of friends convened at an undisclosed location in Brooklyn for The First & Only Mac & Cheese Throwdown, or what I’ve decided to call The Fort Green Smack & Cheese Competition. The competition arose due to “a lot of smack talkin’ by a lot of folks” and the winner would walk away with bragging rights.
There were three entrants: my friends Cynthia, Jonathan, and Sean. Each person prepared unique and delicious takes on the dish. Dishes were judged on three official criteria (taste, presentation, innovation) and one unofficial (comfort). So, who won? Hell, if you ask me, since those in attendance were fortunate enough to taste each offering, we were all winners.
Oh, but you want to know who won the competition? Well, just check out the video above. Then hit the jump for additional photos. Continue reading →
I saw this posted on Teh Facebook this morning and shared it with my friends over there, but it’s too hilarious not to post here as well. The above mock flyer is for your archetypal New Year’s Eve party, and, hoo boy, is it ever on point.
From the promoters name (“Rohypnol Productions”) to the ticket price (“six months’ rent and your dignity”), everything about this flyer is sadly accurate. Thankfully, I’ll be spending this New Year’s with friends at a private gathering. No super-douchy dance club for me this year.
The New Year’s party scene, with its riotous antics, spirited dancing, wanton spending, and voluminous vomiting, is one with which I am very familiar. Remember, I worked in nightlife for years. Those experiences were what led to my penning my debut novel GUESTLIST, which will be available in February 2012. (You had to have known I was gonna tie #GLIST into this somehow.) While it is a world I certainly miss, I also recognize it’s a world I had to leave behind. I’m a grown ass man now. Continue reading →
It’s been raining all week and it sucks. But you know what? I’m determined to go out and have a good time anyway. And one place I definitely know will be rockin’ is Bowery Lounge.
Tonight, the homie DJ Rebel Tec will spin er’thing from funk and electro to pop and dance to reggae and dancehall, and it’s going to be a good goddamn sweaty time.
The One Story Literary Debutante Ball is a benefit that celebrates the literary magazine’s debut writers, and honors the one writer who’s been an exceptional mentor to others. The highlight of the benefit will be the formal “presentation” of One Story authors who have published their debut books in the past year:
Robin Black, If I Loved You I Would Tell You This (Random House)
Susanna Daniel, Stiltsville (HarperCollins)
Seth Fried, The Great Frustration (Soft Skull Press)
Jerry Gabriel, Drowned Boy (Sarabande Books)
Jim Hanas, Why They Cried (ECW Press)
Each writer will be escorted by an established author and/or editor who has been a mentor to them, and, this year, One Story will also honor novelist/memoirist Dani Shapiro for her years of extraordinary support of emerging writers.
Tomorrow night, Thursday, March 31, Jessica Rosenblum and The JRose Agency present The New New Thursdays at “environmentally conscious” NYC nightspot Greenhouse.
You should already know what to expect: beautiful people, great drinks and awesome music.
This photo was taken at an old Ocean Drive spot called Teaser’s back in 2004. Despite my near gluttonous consumption of champagne that night, I still remember a great deal of what went down. Girls, celebrities, maaaaan … this was back when South Beach was fun.
