Movie of the Day: Jackie Brown

This is totally random, but whatever. This is what the kids refer to as GPOY … I think.

I’m up, reading, writing, blogging, et cetera, but I need some ambient background noise or else I cannot concentrate. Some days, music will do; others, I need movie dialogue in the bee-gee.

Well, this morning I’m popping Jackie Brown into the PS3. If you didn’t know already (and really you should know this by now), Jackie Brown is my favorite Quentin Tarantino film. It’s simply brilliant and criminally underrated. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s the only one of his films not available on Blu-Ray.

I remember once being told that someone had been talking about me behind my back. “Jay thinks he’s all that,” I was told the person said. “But he’s not, so why would he even think that?”

I have no idea if this person really said these things, but it’s something that always stuck with me because, well, yeah, I do think I’m “all that.” I know I’m not the most beautiful person on earth (though I am damn handsome) and I’m not the best writer to ever live … but shit, I think I’m pretty fucking boss.

This photo was taken at an old Ocean Drive spot called Teaser’s back in 2004. Despite my near gluttonous consumption of champagne that night, I still remember a great deal of what went down. Girls, celebrities, maaaaan … this was back when South Beach was fun.
