Film: Get Ready For a New American Pie Movie Called ... American Reunion

Oh, American Pie.

No one thought much of you when you debuted in the summer of 1999 but then you turned out to be one of the most hilarious teen comedies of the decade. In fact, you helped reinvigorate the raunchy teenage sex comedy and actually paved the way for the raunchy adult comedies routinely put out by Judd Apatow and his merry band of pranksters.

What set you apart wasn’t the raunch factor, though; no, no, it was your sweetness. (Heh. A movie named American Pie is sweet. Get it?) But seriously, underneath all the jokes about cunnilingus and atomic diarrhea and pastryphilia was a very sweet story of four guys who wanted to ensure their friendship would endure after graduating high school.

So it’s no surprise to learn that every member of the original cast—Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy, Seann William Scott, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Chris Klein, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jennifer Coolidge, Alyson Hannigan, Shannon Elizabeth, Natasha Lyonne—is returning for the next chapter in the American Pie saga: American Reunion.

And thankfully this is an honest-to-God, according-to-Hoyle sequel. I mean, American Pie 2 was a real sequel, but it certainly felt forced and quite a few characters were marginalized. And some characters were just absent altogether in American Wedding. (Where in the hell was Oz and Kevin? Oh, Kevin was in it? Thaaaaaaat’s right …) And please, please, let’s not even bring up those straight-to-DVD stinkers starring Stifler’s little brother or whoever the fuck.

In any case, film website What’s Playing knows exactly what’s happening in the fourth American Pie movie, which follows the old East Great Falls crew around during their ten year high school reunion. If you’re interested in learning what goes down, holler at the link below. But be forewarned, it’s mighty spoilerish.
