Entertainment polymath J.J. Abrams and Alive in Necropolis author Doug Dorst have scored a sweet little deal with Mulholland Books. The writer/director of the upcoming blockbuster film Super 8 came up with a concept for a novel that will be fully fleshed out and penned by Dorst, and Mulholland scored the North American publication rights.
The novel will be a lead title for Mulholland Books’ 2012 list. As with most of Abrams’ projects, early details such as the title, plot, and subject matter were kept on the hush-hush. But none of that matters; apparently the film and subsidiary rights crowd got crunk over the news when the book idea was being shopped.
I’m a fan of Abrams. Everything he’s done, from Alias to the recent Star Trek reboot, has been aces in my book so I’m looking forward to seeing what this is all about. Mulholland Books is a subsidiary of Little, Brown and Company.
