Here’s a midnight movie you don’t hear much about—the insanely (and unintentionally hilarious) Invasion of the Bee Girls. Such a shame; it definitely deserves more buzz. Ha!
Released in 1973, the film is about a mad scientist who creates an army of women who essentially fuck men to death. Well, if you gotta go … go with a smile! (Shout out to Jack Napier.)
With the body count rising, the sheriff holds a town hall meeting in which he suggests the citizens practice abstinence until this whole ordeal can be sorted out. Hilarity ensues.
Invasion of the Bee Girls was one of those late night, basic cable flicks that I enjoyed each weekend when I visited my father. I guess, at the time of its release, it was supposed to be taken somewhat seriously, but by the time my eyes caught it in the 90s, I could recognize the comedy it was truly meant to be.
An interesting tidbit, the film was written by Nicholas Meyer—you know, director of the Jack the Ripper time travel thriller Time After Time and the excellent Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Crazy.
They’ll love the very life out of your body! Durrrr!
