I haven’t seen this movie in ages, and it’s definitely one I’ll need to order from Amazon. Though it was widely derided as an American Graffiti rip-off, The Hollywood Knights had very little in common with that film aside from the “one last night” setup. It has more in common with movies Porky’s and American Pie, both of which are mentioned in the above trailer for its home video release but actually came out after Knights, and believe me when I tell you, it’s wayyyyyyyyy raunchier than either of those films. The “one-armed violinist” scene comes to mind. Ha!
Like most 80s teen comedies, the film has no real plot to speak of. A crew of merry pranksters called The Hollywood Knights like to chill at Tubby’s, a Beverly Hills burger joint. The residents, however, are forcing Tubby’s to close; as a result, The Knights will lose their favorite hangout. So, in retaliation, on Tubby’s last night of business (which also happens to be Halloween), the Knights go around town making mischief and terrorizing everyone. It’s fucking hilarious.
The above trailer really doesn’t do the film justice, and for that I apologize. You’ll have to take my word for it, this is an awesome film. It starts Robert Wuhl, Michelle Pfeiffer, Fran Drescher, and Stuart Pankin of Not Necessarily the News fame. Ha!
