I am a huge Quentin Tarantino fan (even if my opinion that his best films are Jackie Brown and Death Proof are in the minority) but it is with great trepidation I await his upcoming Django Unchained.
The film stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Leonardo DiCaprio, and tells the story of Django, a freed slave who treks across America with a German dentist-turned-bounty hunter to rescue Django’s wife Broomhilda from a charming but sadistic plantation owner.
Yes, it’s Kill Bill set during those awful days of American slavery.
Anyway, above is the teaser poster for the film. It’s effective, and it echoes the aesthetic of Sergio Leone, the Italian filmmaker whose style has been quite an influence on Tarantino.
What are your thoughts on the poster? On the film? I wonder if, in our current racially charged climate, America is ready for a film that deals significantly with our horrible past with slavery? LMK your thoughts in the comments below.
