Those who lust for liquor and literature, such as myself, will be happy to know that tomorrow is the 2012 Brooklyn Lit Crawl.
Created by the deviant bibliophiles behind San Francisco’s Litquake, the Brooklyn Lit Crawl is exactly what you think it is: a book-and-booze fest that will feature over thirty authors (including my literary crush, author and New York Press columnist Amy Sohn) and fourteen separate events at ten different venues, including La Casita Yarn Shop, Camp, Micro Museum, Zombie Hut, and Book Court.
Oh yeah, and it’s all free.

Last night, I attended the Hip-Hop is For Lovers Mixer at Therapy Wine Bar in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. The event was hosted by the lovely ladies of HH4L, Uche, Lenee, and Jakema, and boasted a nice, mixed crowd of music lovers, tastemakers, jetsetters, and liquor enthusiasts.
Uche held things down on the music front, playing the role of DJ and spinning everything from classics (Biggie’s “One More Chance/Stay With Me”) to more recent jams (Big Boi’s “Tambourine”).
I had a few adult beverages, including the concoction for which Hip-Hop is For Lovers is infamous: the Slow Motion. It features a sweet mélange of tropical flavors that will sneak up on that ass and then leave you on your ass.

We’re giving away an AUTOGRAPHED COPY of GUESTLIST by Jay Fingers!
“GUESTLIST is a coming-of-age novel for the Twitter age.”
–Abigail Ekue, author of The Darker Side of Lust
GUESTLIST provides a look at the people and shenanigans seen once the sacred threshold of the velvet rope has been crossed. It uncovers a debaucherous world of sexual politics, alcohol-fueled antics, and gluttonous consumption populated by the socialites and social climbers who, of course, want to see and be seen.
GUESTLIST is the story of a bunch of beautiful people doing some very ugly things. It’s spectacularly sexy, funny, and, at times, shocking. It’s an audacious novel and the debut of a unique voice that’s sure to be around for years to come. Continue reading
As you should already know, GUESTLIST is finally released. To celebrate the novel’s release, we held a book release party this past Monday at cocktail bar Hanson Dry in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.
The party was a grand success – friends, colleagues, co-workers, drinking buddies, women I
lust after adore, everyone came out to celebrate, and it was a good time.

Yesterday, a small gathering of friends convened at an undisclosed location in Brooklyn for The First & Only Mac & Cheese Throwdown, or what I’ve decided to call The Fort Green Smack & Cheese Competition. The competition arose due to “a lot of smack talkin’ by a lot of folks” and the winner would walk away with bragging rights.
There were three entrants: my friends Cynthia, Jonathan, and Sean. Each person prepared unique and delicious takes on the dish. Dishes were judged on three official criteria (taste, presentation, innovation) and one unofficial (comfort). So, who won? Hell, if you ask me, since those in attendance were fortunate enough to taste each offering, we were all winners.
Oh, but you want to know who won the competition? Well, just check out the video above. Then hit the jump for additional photos. Continue reading
