As you should know by now, my favorite book of all-time is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It’s a classic tale of status, wealth, ambition, and (most of all) love. The 70s film version starring Robert Redford will always be cool, but now Baz Luhrmann has decided to give the jazz age story a new 3D sheen. Will it work? Who knows. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carroway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy. Check out the trailer above. Continue reading

Someone hand me a late pass but this is the coolest shit I have ever seen on these Internets.
F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s The Great Gatsby, one of my favorite novels and subject of an upcoming 3-D film version starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Baz Luhrmann, has been re-imagined into an 8-bit Nintendo game.
Follow this link to play the game; I’ve done it and it is a hoot. (All screenshots are from when I played the game.) You fight butlers, drunkards and flappers in your quest to find all of Jay Gatsby’s gold.
Everything’s authentic, right down to its graphics and tinny musical soundtrack. If the website is to be believed (which it’s obvs not), the game was discovered at a yeard sale. To wit:
I found it at a yard sale. I bought it for 50 cents and went home to try it out. After dusting off my NES for like, 20 minutes I got it working, and jesus. So weird. Apparently it’s an unreleased localization of a Japanese cart called “Doki Doki Toshokan: Gatsby no Monogatari,” but I haven’t found anything about that either. What’s left of the manual was just rubberbanded to the cartridge. I finally scanned them …
Check out the scans (and my screencaps) below.

Remember when I told you that Baz Luhrmann was remaking The Great Gatsby with Leo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan? We were all overjoyed, right? Well, now word on the street is, Baz may shoot his Gatsby in 3-fucking-D.
Sigh grumble grumble.
Apparently, Luhrmann “praised the 3D format,” telling THR “that he has workshopped his upcoming project The Great Gatsby in 3D, though he has not made a call about whether to shoot in the format.”
