Indulge in Literature and Liquor During Lit Crawl Brooklyn (May 19)

Lit Crawl NYC

Those who lust for liquor and literature, such as myself, will be happy to know that tomorrow is the 2012 Brooklyn Lit Crawl.

Created by the deviant bibliophiles behind San Francisco’s Litquake, the Brooklyn Lit Crawl is exactly what you think it is: a book-and-booze fest that will feature over thirty authors (including my literary crush, author and New York Press columnist Amy Sohn) and fourteen separate events at ten different venues, including La Casita Yarn Shop, Camp, Micro Museum, Zombie Hut, and Book Court.

Oh yeah, and it’s all free.

Excerpt: Kisses For Tati by Jay Fingers #K4T

Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss by Antonio Canova, photo by Jay Tong

As many of you know, I’ve been working on a short story entitled Kisses for Tati (formerly known as The Drums) for a couple years now. I don’t know why it’s taken so long for me to finish this particular piece, especially when I’m able to see the story so very clearly in my mind.

In any case, I feel I should share something with you guys, and since I’ve made some progress on Kisses for Tati, I’ve decided that’s what I’m gonna share. For those who don’t know, Kisses for Tati is about Tati (natch), a socially awkward young woman who meets the man of her dreams but whose hopes of happiness are threatened by her domineering older sister.

Hip-Hop is For Lovers Mixer Recap

Hip-Hop is For Lovers

Last night, I attended the Hip-Hop is For Lovers Mixer at Therapy Wine Bar in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. The event was hosted by the lovely ladies of HH4L, Uche, Lenee, and Jakema, and boasted a nice, mixed crowd of music lovers, tastemakers, jetsetters, and liquor enthusiasts.

Uche held things down on the music front, playing the role of DJ and spinning everything from classics (Biggie’s “One More Chance/Stay With Me”) to more recent jams (Big Boi’s “Tambourine”).

I had a few adult beverages, including the concoction for which Hip-Hop is For Lovers is infamous: the Slow Motion. It features a sweet mélange of tropical flavors that will sneak up on that ass and then leave you on your ass.

Walking Home From Cookers (Video)

Recorded last night as I walked home, a bit tipsy, from Night of the Cookers. I’m not really saying anything, but hey, I promised you more videos. Here ya go.

Oh, the song playing in the background is “She” by Tyler, the Creator featuring Frank Ocean. GOLF WANG!

Why Is It Easier to Get GUESTLIST in Barnes & Noble Than in My Local Bookstores? #GLIST

Why Is It Easier to Get GUESTLIST in Barnes & Noble Than in My Local Bookstores? #GLIST

Before my debut novel GUESTLIST was actually a tangible object that people could purchase and read, I told everyone that it would be available at all the usual online book retailers: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Powell’s. (Hey, Powell’s, what the hell?)

But people asked, “Well, will it be available at [insert local bookstore]?”

“Oh, sure,” I said. “I’ve spoken with them, they pretty much said they’ll be ready when I’m ready.”

Turns out that hasn’t been the case.

You see, despite my being a local Brooklyn author and the claims of my neighborhood bookstores’ desires to support and showcase the work of local authors, I’ve been getting the run-around from damn near everyone.

On A Rainy Saturday (Video)

First, I need y’all to udnerstand something. I am currently blogging from a bar. From a motherfucking bar. And not that cute, mobile-style blogging via the WordPress app (which is pretty fucking boss, btw). I’ve got my MacBook Air out on a dirty table, hammering shit out while sipping on a Blue Point and surrounded by Fort Greene’s finest barflies. I love my life.

Anyway, in an effort to vlog more, I decided to to post this short video I filmed earlier today. It truly serves no purpose. It’s aimless, it’s random, but at least you get to hear my mellifluous voice. Enjoy.

20120330-123345.jpg

As you should already know, GUESTLIST is finally released. To celebrate the novel’s release, we held a book release party this past Monday at cocktail bar Hanson Dry in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.

The party was a grand success – friends, colleagues, co-workers, drinking buddies, women I lust after adore, everyone came out to celebrate, and it was a good time.
