A few weeks ago, before the release of my novel GUESTLIST, I was having drinks with the lovely and amazing Emily Cavalier of Mouth of the Border and the conversation shifted to the topic of my novel.
Ms. Cavalier asked the question that everyone asks: “How much of it is autobiographical?”
“Twenty percent,” I said.
But you know, even that’s not true. GUESTLIST is most assuredly not autobiographical. The novel is not about me. And, despite what some will inevitably think, I am not any particular character in the story. In fact, the entire storyline is complete fiction.
With one exception.
And that exception, Dear Readers, is what inspired GUESTLIST.

Yes, I failed last month’s challenge something terrible. But this month I’ve been doing much better. Below are the pics I’ve so far taken for the Instagram #AprilPhotoAMonth Photo Challenge. Since they’ve opened the flood gates and the whole goddamn world is on Instagram now, there’s really only one thing to do: LET’S GET IT!

As a writer, I’m often worried about how my work will be received, and that has never been more the case than with my novel GUESTLIST. Of course, in my mind, Guestlist is a fucking masterpiece, on par with the greatest literary works known to man. (You can make an informed opinion by going to Amazon and purchasing your copy now.)
So it’s always great when people let you know how much they enjoy your work. It’s simultaneously humbling and confirmatory. It’s a great feeling, let me tell you.
Above is a text message I received earlier today from a satisfied reader. I love that he asked to be cast as Swann should Guestlist be made into a film. Below is another text I received over the weekend from someone lamenting over the fact she’s enjoying the novel rather than getting some work done.

First, I need y’all to udnerstand something. I am currently blogging from a bar. From a motherfucking bar. And not that cute, mobile-style blogging via the WordPress app (which is pretty fucking boss, btw). I’ve got my MacBook Air out on a dirty table, hammering shit out while sipping on a Blue Point and surrounded by Fort Greene’s finest barflies. I love my life.
Anyway, in an effort to vlog more, I decided to to post this short video I filmed earlier today. It truly serves no purpose. It’s aimless, it’s random, but at least you get to hear my mellifluous voice. Enjoy.

Yesterday, I was nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award. The nomination came from a fellow author, the lovely Eveli Acosta, who named me amongst 15 other super-talented, super-cool bloggers. Be sure to check out Eveli’s site, where you can check out her work and find links to order her books.
As a Versatile Blogger Award nominee, there are a few rules I must abide by, rules that I shall now share with you, Dear Readers. They are:
- Create a post for the Versatile Blogger Award. (Hey, whaddaya think you’re reading now?)
- In the same post, thank the blogger who gave you the award and put a link back to their blog. (Please see above!)
- Nominate 15 other people for this award and let them know. (I shall do this posthaste!)
- Post seven random things about yourself. (I am not looking forward to this.)
- Include these rules in your post. (And here we are.)
I guess I’ll post seven random things about myself first, then I’ll follow up with my nominations for The Versatile Blogger Award. Ready? Okay!

One of the things I vowed to do more of in 2012 is vlog. So, here you go: my first video of 2012 (even though it was technically recorded in 2011).
For those wondering what my Facebook status said, it is below:
I’d be lying if I said I’m not happy to see 2011 come to an end. Friendships ended, opportunities were lost, and despair loomed much larger and darkly than ever before. Yet despite all the setbacks, all the heartache, and all the disappointment, I’ve tried to remain optimistic. With that said, I want nothing but love, happiness, and prosperity in 2012. For all of us. Happy New Year.
