Random Cool: Play The Great Gatsby Nintendo Game!

Random Cool: The Great Gatsby Nintendo Game

Someone hand me a late pass but this is the coolest shit I have ever seen on these Internets.

F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s The Great Gatsby, one of my favorite novels and subject of an upcoming 3-D film version starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Baz Luhrmann, has been re-imagined into an 8-bit Nintendo game.

Follow this link to play the game; I’ve done it and it is a hoot. (All screenshots are from when I played the game.) You fight butlers, drunkards and flappers in your quest to find all of Jay Gatsby’s gold.

Everything’s authentic, right down to its graphics and tinny musical soundtrack. If the website is to be believed (which it’s obvs not), the game was discovered at a yeard sale. To wit:

I found it at a yard sale. I bought it for 50 cents and went home to try it out. After dusting off my NES for like, 20 minutes I got it working, and jesus. So weird. Apparently it’s an unreleased localization of a Japanese cart called “Doki Doki Toshokan: Gatsby no Monogatari,” but I haven’t found anything about that either. What’s left of the manual was just rubberbanded to the cartridge. I finally scanned them …

Check out the scans (and my screencaps) below.

Curiously, Shot Then decided not to provide a download link for the medley. Never you worry, dear readers, I will provide such a link. Find it and the tracklisting after the jump.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun … Playing Video Games?

Pretty in pink.

It’s no big secret that the video game industry is a male-dominated one, rife with titles like Grand Theft Auto, Street Fighter, and Pokemon. Even games that feature female protagonists, such as Tomb Raider, are primarily targeted to males, capitalizing on the fantasy of buxom bad-ass bitches taking no prisoners. One must wonder, though, is there truly a female demographic being underserved by the video gaming industry? Paramount Pictures thinks so, and as Variety tells us, they plan on rolling out titles based on Clueless, Mean Girls, and Pretty in Pink. No, I’m not kidding. Continue reading
