Lots of Black folks, myself included, have been worried about Quentin Tarantino’s treatment of slavery-era America in his upcoming film Django Unchained. Unlike with his previous releases, I was unable to get my hands on the screenplay when it was available online so I had no idea what to expect.
Well, the first trailer for the film premiered last week, attached to the release of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi action horror flick Prometheus. And after watching it, and rewatching it, and rewatching it again, I gotta say … I’m looking forward to Django Unchained.

I am a huge Quentin Tarantino fan (even if my opinion that his best films are Jackie Brown and Death Proof are in the minority) but it is with great trepidation I await his upcoming Django Unchained.
The film stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Leonardo DiCaprio, and tells the story of Django, a freed slave who treks across America with a German dentist-turned-bounty hunter to rescue Django’s wife Broomhilda from a charming but sadistic plantation owner.
Yes, it’s Kill Bill set during those awful days of American slavery.

This is totally random, but whatever. This is what the kids refer to as GPOY … I think.
I’m up, reading, writing, blogging, et cetera, but I need some ambient background noise or else I cannot concentrate. Some days, music will do; others, I need movie dialogue in the bee-gee.
Well, this morning I’m popping Jackie Brown into the PS3. If you didn’t know already (and really you should know this by now), Jackie Brown is my favorite Quentin Tarantino film. It’s simply brilliant and criminally underrated. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s the only one of his films not available on Blu-Ray.
Harvey, what the fuck are you doing, man?

miami disco bitch!
I suck. No really, I’m supposed to do the #FingersFollows posts every day but I’ve been slacking; not only that, but I was supposed to do this particular #FF a few days ago but I failed to do so. You see, today’s recommendation is one of my best friends in the entire universe, the lovely, incomparable Karen Discoball. And I meant to post this on her birthday, which was last Friday. Womp.
Karen and I go back like four flats on a Cadillac, like high-top fades, like eight-tracks, like Bartles & Jaymes. We met as co-workers at now-defunct South Beach nightclub Suite Lounge and have been thick as thieves ever since. In addition to being a great friend, Karen is also the world’s biggest house music fiend. No, seriously, she’s like the Quentin Tarantino of house music—she knows every DJ, every song, every remix. And don’t think she’s gonna champion the commercial sound either. Karen is strictly underground, son. When I met her, I knew nothing about EDM; now, I know … a little bit more, haha. And she’s super talented, having done everything from managing top-notch, world renowned DJs to booking shows to event planning.
Thanks to Defamer, who stole them from Empire, we have a first look at a few teaser posters for Quentin Tarantino’s spelling bee drama Inglourious Basterds. While I can’t recall exactly what the rifle one represented in the script I read, the knife and baseball bat posters certainly bring to mind two of the screenplay’s more memorable moments.
Peep the other two posters after the jump.
Hey, ScriptGirl! Nice rack.

That’s pretty much all I can say after reading Quentin Tarantino’s latest screenplay Inglorious Bastards. Grammatical and spelling errors aside, this is hands down one of the best scripts I’ve had the pleasure of reading this year.
I’m a fan of Tarantino’s work, but I am by no means what you would call a “fanboy.” I find some of his work – namely Reservoir Dogs and the Kill Bill saga – to be quite flawed. Then again, I am different from your typical QT fan in that I simply love Jackie Brown and Death Proof above all his other works.
But Inglorious Bastards is genius, and it’s genius not because of snappy dialogue or pop culture references or foot massages or whatever else you want to ascribe Tarantino’s success to. Inglorious is genius because it tells a damn good story. While I won’t reveal any spoilers, I will discuss characters and plot points, so if you don’t want to know more, then don’t read after the jump. Continue reading
